Methods of Preparation of Alchohals
Methods of preparation
1.From alkyl halides:-
Not suitable for preparation of tertiary alcohols because tertiary halides, with strong base, prefer to undergo E2 elimination reaction.
2.By reduction of carbonyl compounds:
(H2 / Ni) is a very strong reducing agent, desides carboxyl, it also reduces olefinic bonds. A better reagent is which do not affect olefinic bonds.
4.Hydrolysis of Esters:
5.Hydration of alkenes:
6.Hydroboration – oxidation: (anti – markovnikov’s hydration of alkenes)
